Safeguarding Our People
Without dedicated crew, yachting would feel very different. Fostering a positive culture is at the heart of our operations. We attract the very best. We offer personal growth. And we ensure their life out at sea is as awe-inspiring and memorable as the experiences we bring to you.
Memorable experiences are defined by the people that bring your dream to life. We believe that passionate yacht crew turn great experiences into amazing ones. Both of our founders worked as crew, eventually captaining some of the largest yachts at the time, and they experienced first-hand the transformative atmosphere a dedicated crew can create. Starting as a yacht management company with a desire to cultivate a positive culture, to now - a business that has expanded to charter, sales, purchase, and new build & refit - we still retain the belief that the essence of yachting is made special by the people. Crew wellbeing is now a vital part of our social sustainability efforts, stemming from our roots, remaining intrinsic to our outlook, and filtering through the whole team. The future of yachting lies with the opportunities that our people bring, moving beyond the perception that a yacht is simply an asset. With utmost respect for our crew, we ensure their career path is enjoyable, amazing, incredible. Giving to them what we give to our clients – an unforgettable journey.
We sponsor ISWAN’s Yacht Crew Helpline, a 24/7 service that crew can access whenever they need support, which has proven invaluable since its inception. In addition, all Y.CO crew receive first response training that includes mental health awareness. Our crew on Savannah are implementing and testing wearable technology that logs their emotions throughout the day. Life on board is fast paced, often with little opportunity to pause and reflect, so through using this technology they can track their mental wellbeing in an agile and responsive way. In 2024, ISWAN ran the campaign ‘Safe at sea…it takes all of us!’, which brought to light issues around discrimination and harassment experienced by women in the maritime industry. A female member of our team sat on the panel at a recent event to discuss the challenges currently facing women in yachting, and we continue to champion these campaigns.
